Grinder Options for Your Flair Espresso Maker
Entry Level Espresso Grinders For Your Flair
You’re just about to buy a Flair Espresso Maker for your home, and now you’re coming to realize that you will also need a grinder – and not just any grinder – but an espresso-capable burr grinder to boot.
We get this may feel daunting. But we are glad that you’re here, because in truth, a good grinder is the single most important piece of equipment in determining the quality of your espresso extraction. Without an espresso-capable burr grinder, you just won’t be able to enjoy the full potential of your Flair Espresso Maker. And there’s nothing that breaks our heart quite like that.
NEO Flex users can rejoice though – as the Flow-Control Portafilter was designed to work without a high-quality grinder. Below are a few options for those needing an upgrade.
The Royal Grinder is Flair’s recommendation for anyone looking for an affordable option that will work across our entire range of products, from the NEO Flex to the Flair 58 Plus. Precision-engineered, hardened steel burrs will cut through any roast you give them, and the 72 adjustment steps of .02mm will ensure the ability to dial-in for any brewing method.
Electric Grinders for Flair Classic and PRO 2
Here are two affordable burr grinder options that you can use with any Flair Classic or PRO 2 Espresso Maker. As a reminder, the NEO Flex, when using the Flow-Control Portafilter, does not require a high end burr grinder for delicious espresso results. But, when using the Bottomless 2-in-1 Portafilter, will require something similar to one of these two recommendations.
Baratza Encore ESP
The Baratza Encore ESP was designed specifically for the entry-level espresso brewer, and features 40mm conical burrs with 40 different stepped adjustments. The burr mounting system has also been redesigned for easy removal and cleaning and a powerful, high torque DC motor effortlessly drives the burrs through all roast levels.
The high-torque motor and 6-blade burr set produce outstanding grind consistency and flavor with 41+ precision settings. Opus also includes a volumetric dosing lid to measure beans, a spouted catch for mess-free transitions, anti-static technology to minimize retention, and a grind guide so you’re never lost.
Electric Grinders for Flair 58 Family
Below are three options to choose from for the Flair 58 family. All have been tested by our team and provide good results when brewing with the 58mm workflow of the Flair 58.
At the time of writing, the Timemore 64s is just finishing a Kickstarter campaign, raising more than $5,000,000. It features 64mm patented flat burrs, a full metal unibody and sensory brushless motor, which can increase grind consistency. The 64s also features a rotary knocker to remove any fines retained in the system after grinding is complete. The 64s will be available in white or black colors, to suit any kitchen.
Eureka Mignon Facile
The Eureka Mignon Facile features a stepless micrometric adjustment knob for dialing in the grind with precision. The Facile uses 50mm flat burrs made of hardened steel to grind through all roast levels. In addition, the Eureka is also equipped with the Silent System, an innovative feature that reduces the noise generated by grinding. The end result is one of the quietest grinders at its price point.
Baratza Sette 270
True to its name, the Baratza Sette 270 has 270 grind settings with macro/micro adjustment for the most precise dial-in capabilities. A built-in convertible device holder allows for convenient change between a portafilter or supplied grounds bin. The Sette also has three programmable dosing buttons for accurate, consistent dosing to within a 10th of a second and can grind up to 5 grams per second.
