Introducing the Royal Grinder - by Flair Espresso
October 9, 2019
LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA – It’s no secret that your grind is probably the most important input to the taste and mouth feel of your coffee. Hitting the sweet spot signals instant success, while missing it could result in either a sour or bitter flavor and a less than worthy experience. Because of this, we at Flair believe that “Your Grind is King” and it’s this belief that led us to design the Royal.
We understand that consistently getting your grind right, with different beans and different methods, requires skill. But as with any craft, it also requires the right tools. The Royal Grinder is undoubtedly the right tool. Designed from the ground up, as with all Flair Espresso products, we worked to understand what was necessary and what could be left behind. The result is a beautiful product with the looks to please and the capabilities to rival any other offer on the market.
Starting from the top, and keeping in line with our regal name, the Royal features a unique “Lift, Turn & Lock Adjustment Crown” that provides for no slip, repeatable results. Starting from absolute zero, this crown will make three complete rotations with 72 individual adjustments of .02mm each. Users simply lift the crown out of it’s housing, turn to the required setting, and lock back into place by lowering with a click. Once set, your adjustment cannot slip.
In addition, many grinders today seem to require the use of the handle to assist in making grind setting adjustments. On the Royal, the adjustment crown is independent of the handle and crank, meaning a user can adjust their grind settings with the handle on or off. The end of the handle features a large, ergonomic pommel that fits nicely in the hand and is comfortable to use daily.
Just below the crown is another unique feature of the Royal Grinder, the full-wrap silicone grip. Set on top of a precision engineered aluminum body, the silicone grip is meant to provide the absolute best in control when grinding and ensures that no matter where you hold the Royal, you’ll receive the best traction and torque possible.
Inside the aluminum housing are Swiss-made, hardened steel burrs that have a high-efficiency burr geometry. What this means is that not only can you be confident in the uniformity of your grounds for the most even extractions possible, but you can also benefit from fluid grind action that makes cutting through dark and light roasts a breeze. On top of this, the Royal employs four guide bearings, instead of two, to guarantee consistent performance in the crank shaft.
Finally, the catch cup on the Royal Grinder was developed to be easily removable while providing a stainless steel insert to catch all grounds. Simply “crack” the catch cup from the body with a twist, and snap it back into place when finished.
With the addition of the Royal Grinder to the Flair Espresso lineup, we’re making good on our promise to provide a one-stop shop for all your manual espresso needs.

Flair Welcomes a New Family Member - Introducing the Signature Black
February 22, 2018
LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA – It’s lonely at the top. That’s why we at Flair decided to give the Flair Signature, our flagship espresso maker, a bit of company. Starting February 22nd, the Flair family is growing to add the Signature Black to our portfolio of products.
Made from the same high-quality materials as all other Flair Espresso Makers, the Signature Black features a modern matte finish with the Signature Series’ premium copper-plated portafilter base. It’s an elegant compliment to the chrome of our original Signature, and provides discerning customers with the ability to keep a darker styling in their kitchens or at their coffee stations.
As with all Flair Espresso Makers, the Signature Black requires no electricity to operate and has no need for wasteful coffee pods. Boiling water is added to a brewing cylinder that sits atop a portafilter filled with freshly ground beans. To brew, the boiling water is forced into contact with the fresh grounds by lowering the manual lever, which generates between 9-16 BAR pressure, exactly that required for premium coffee extraction. The result is a beautiful, professional-quality double shot of espresso with layers of thick crema on top.
Key Features of the Signature Black Include:
- 100% Human-Powered, Manual Espresso Press
- Environmentally Friendly – No pods and no plugs
- Easy to Clean – Features the markets only detachable brewing head and Easy-Clean Portafilter
- Completely Portable – breaks down into an included carrying case
- Hand-polished, cool matte finish with copper-plated portafilter base
But, just as with most things at Flair, we decided to outdo ourselves. The launch of the Signature Black also coincides with the launch of our new Easy-Clean Portafilter. This premium portafilter features a removable spouted bottom that makes cleaning easier and faster. After brewing just remove the spout, rinse from both ends, and set aside to dry.
The Easy-Clean Portafilter will come standard with every Signature Series Flair, truly elevating the product to new levels of brewing greatness. But no matter which Flair you choose, you can feel confident you’ll receive the same great espresso every time you lower the lever.
We at Flair know espresso, and our Signature Black is one more way to Make Espresso Right.
Flair Espresso Maker was originally launched through a successful Kickstarter campaign in November of 2016 and burst onto the handcrafted coffee scene, receiving rave reviews for the ease, consistency and level of espresso produced. Since then, Flair Espresso Maker has added two more products to their portfolio and sold thousands of units in both the U.S. and global markets.

Back to Basics with Espresso Made Right
October 19, 2017
Ever since Desiderio Pavoni bought the rights to Luigi Bezzerra’s coffee making machine in 1903, the espresso, and the way in which it is made, has been constantly evolving. The method of pulling an espresso shot has been as much about coffee as it has been a reflection of the current technology and popular culture. This holds true especially today as Sergio Landau set out to create the next generation of espresso makers, one that was in-line with the need for sustainability and simplification in an increasingly complex world. He asked the question, “What is the bare minimum needed to craft a professional level espresso?” The answer was the Flair Espresso Maker.
The Flair Espresso Maker requires no electricity to operate and has no need for wasteful coffee pods. Cleaning is also extremely simple, as Landau created the Flair with the market’s only removable brewing head.
Originally manufactured and sold in a black and red design, Flair recently released their Signature edition to provide customers with a more modern look. The Signature is still made from the same high quality materials, like strong aluminum and stainless steel, but the Signature is a full chrome body with a copper highlighted portafilter base. This high-end aesthetic is meant to satisfy even the most discerning of customers, and will be the centerpiece of any kitchen. In addition, both versions of the Flair Espresso Maker break down and store in a custom carrying case, allowing customers to travel light and still enjoy their espresso from anywhere.
Since the original launch of the Flair Espresso Maker back in February of 2017, over 2,000 units have been sold as customers buy into the idea of espresso made right, sustainably and purely. Customers have been impressed not just with the design but also the quality of espresso they receive from the Flair for the relatively inexpensive price point of below $200. “I challenge anyone to find an espresso maker that produces better quality espresso for the price, or any price close to it,” commented one Amazon customer. And indeed, others believed this quality of espresso couldn’t exist in a package so simple. “[The Flair] seems simple, and it is, but we are often so skeptical and picky that we feel this sort of thing ought not to exist,” commented one reviewer on Home-Barista.com.
But the Flair Espresso Maker does exist, and now with two elegant offerings any customer can begin to make espresso right.
